Dr. Thompson and Dr. Brown give regular check-ups on babies. At these check-ups you will be given a handout on what to expect as far as your baby is concerned. We have outlined some of these in this Website. If you have questions that are not addressed in this website, feel free to contact the office during our regular office hours. |

At 2 weeks old your baby: · Can readily locate the nipple for feeding · Has a strong sucking reflex · Responds to light, noise, and movement · Tightly grasps with his/her hands · Spends a great deal of time sleeping, eating, and crying · Needs lots of warm, loving care
Learning takes place from the time your baby is born. Cuddle, cradle, rock, talk, sing, whisper, touch, rub, & stroke your baby especially after bath and while feeding.

Circumcision If you elect to have your little boy circumcised, you will want to schedule that procedure as soon as possible, perhaps as soon as you get home from the hospital. Dr. Brown will circumcise your child in the office up to 2 weeks old, and Dr. Thompson up to 1 month old. |
|
At 1 month old your baby: · Thrusts out arms and legs in play · Rolls partway from back to side · Arm & leg movements are primarily reflexive · Eyes fix on mom’s or dad’s face in response to your smile · Daily patterns of eating, sleeping, and crying are disorganized.
Feedings and holding provide the basis for forming close and secure relationships between you and your baby. If your baby’s needs for food and love are satisfied, a life long bond of love and trust begins. Encourage participation in feeding and holding by significant others such as dad, brother, sister, etc. |
|
At 2 months old your baby: · Pays more attention to the outside world · May start to drool · Moves more - may roll over.
Your baby should be at least 2 months old before immunizations can be given. Encourage touching and holding development by providing your baby with rattles, large rings, and a suspended 10” square box your baby can bat and swipe at. |
|
At 3 months old your baby: · Can support his/her head when in the prone position · May make baby sounds - coos, squalls, squeals · Moves about more · May put his/her fists into mouth · Knows mom’s face.
Continue providing a learning atmosphere for your baby. Sit him/her in an infant’s seat where activities are taking place, place simple pictures or designs 8-12 inches from baby’s visual field, give baby objects he/she can hold and PLAY with your child.
