At 4 months old your baby:

·          May vocalize in response to verbal stimulation

·          Begins babbling

·          Really laughs

·          Can support his/her own head

·          Gets quite excited about things in their surroundings.

There must be at least 2 months between your baby’s previous immunizations and their four month immunizations.  For 10 - 15 minutes each day, enjoy a few moments of exercise with your baby.  Slowly stretch your child’s arms up, down, and then alternate arms going in opposite directions.  Do the same with the legs and then combine arm and leg stretches.

Medicine

At 5 months old your baby:

·          Starts putting everything into the mouth - blankets, toys, feet, and toes

·          Moves about more

·          May try to crawl but is unable to raise chest of ground

·          Can sit erect when supported

Strengthen your baby’s muscles:  Laying on the floor, pull baby by his/her hands to a sitting position and then to a standing position.  Strengthen baby’s neck, back, and stomach muscles, place baby on top of a beach ball or round pillow - hold him/her by the waist and gently rock your child back and forth.

At 6 months old your baby:

·          Can roll completely over

·          Moves about - creeping and crawling

·          Grasps, but with no thumb opposition

·          Can discriminate between friendly and angry talking

·          May begin teething - this is accompanied with much drooling and possibly some loss of appetite

·          May be able to sit alone

·          Babbles increasingly

·          Puts everything in the mouth

Immunizations need to be updated.  Please make sure there are at least two months between this set of immunizations and the previous set.  Increase your baby’s muscle coordination development.  10 minutes of purposeful playtime will prove beneficial.  If possible, for a few minutes daily, spread a blanket on the grass and allow your baby to move freely and enjoy the outdoors.

At 8 months old your baby:

·          Starts to be afraid of strangers.

·          May want to stand.

Immunizations need to be updated.  Please make sure there are at least two months between this set of immunizations and the previous set.  Hang a row of pictures 1 - 2 feet from the floor to provide an interesting and educational diversion.  Provide large pillows for your baby to crawl over or a big empty box open in each end to crawl in and out of.
