What is a screening test? Your doctor may recommend screening tests if you have risk factors for certain diseases, or at certain times of your life, such as during pregnancy. Screening test are used to check for certain diseases before you have any signs or symptoms of the disease. They often test for diseases that can take years to show symptoms, such as cancer, diabetes or heart disease. Finding these conditions early may help your provider treat the disease more effectively and prevent complications. Talk to your provider about which screening tests may be right for you.
