What motivates you to want to stay healthy?We are all motivated by different things. Maybe you want to stay healthy and fit for your family so you can always be there for them. Or maybe you want to stay fit so you can do the things you enjoy for as long as you can. Choose the things that matter to you and focus on them.Here are some ideas to help you stay motivated:· Treat your walking time as an appointment you make with yourself. · Track your progress. · Write down the reasons you decided to start walking. · Include new goals. · Join a walking group. · Keep a pair of old walking shoes in your car. You never know when you’ll have time to squeeze in a 10 minute walk.
· Walking uphill can increase body tone, caloric burn and cardiovascular fitness. Studies show that postmenopausal women who had walked regularly for more than 10 years, avoided heart disease, falls, hospitalization and surgeries far more successfully than their inactive peers. An increase in your weight of 11-18 lbs can increase your risk of heart disease by 25%. An increase of 25 lbs. increases your risk by 200% - 300%.The risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer can be reduced simply by climbing the stairs, taking the dog for a walk, or sweeping the driveway.
