It is recommended that you take 400 mcg (0.4 mg) of folic acid every day for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.  Folic acid can help prevent problems with your baby’s brain and spinal cord.  It is best if you can start taking folic acid before you become pregnant.

Dr. Thompson will most likely start you our on some prenatal vitamins.  If you do take the vitamins, you should stop taking any other vitamins or mineral supplements with it, unless Dr. Thompson recommends it.
