Medicine

If you’re like most American’s, you may not be getting enough water a day.  Only one in five American’s meets the “eight-a-day” recommendation, and one in ten American’s don’t drink any water at all.

For a safe and effective workout, proper hydration is important.  It will help your body to maintain a safe temperature, pump blood to your muscles, burn fat and calories, and cleanse your body of toxins accumulated during your workout.

Tips to help you stay healthy during your exercise routine:

·          At least two hours before you exercise drink 8 to 16 oz. of water or fluid to make sure you are well hydrated.  Immediately before you exercise drink another 4 to 8 oz.

·          Drink 4 to 8 oz. every 20 minutes during exercise.  Your body needs to replenish the water you sweat out to remain cool.  Schedule water breaks during your workout.

·          Drink enough water to replace fluids lost during your workout.  To determine that, weigh yourself prior to and after your workout; drink two cups of water for every pound you lost while exercising.
